There Was a Girl

	This satiric quatrain has had a long life.  The editor heard it, sung to "St. Louis Woman," in elementary school in the 1940s in Los Angeles.

There was a girl of Memphis, Tenn.,
Who frigged herself with a fountain pen.
The cap came off, the ink ran wild.
She was brought to bed with a Negro child.
