Born in Buffalo, NY. Sometimes billed as Bart Raeburn. Appeared at the Carousel in New York City in June of 1945 and the Hotel Sheraton in October. His main gig was at New York’s Monkey Bar where he replaced Johnny Payne and resided from 1944 through the early 1950’s.

Born in Cleburne TX June 19, 1909. Began her career as a radio singer at WEAP in Fort Worth. Inspired by Nan Blakstone’s success she turned to a spicier repertoire and seemed poised for major success until she quit show business to get married. Later opened a popular club in Hawaii. Died July 9, 2006.

Andy RAZAF
Born Andrea Paul Razafkeriefo in Washington, DC. Dec. 16, 1895. One of the foremost black lyricists, his collaborations with Fats Waller and others dominated the early swing era. His risqué efforts enriched the blues catalogs of the 1920's and 1930's. His specialty material was recorded by Gladys Bentley, Cleo Brown, Ben Light and many others. Died Feb. 3, 1973 in North Hollywood, CA.
The vocal and piano style of the following anonymous performances strongly suggest Razaf performing his own composition:

Judson Rees was the stage name of Edward Jarvis, born in Hollywood. Started working professionally at the age of five in 1914. Extensive radio and television work including "Miracle on 34th Street." Performed in the show "Lost in the Stars" which premiered Oct. 30, 1949.

Smokey ROGERS
Born Eugene Rogers Mar. 23, 1917, he composed "Gone" performed by Ferlin Husky in 1952 and "My Chickashay Gal" popularized by Roy Rogers (no relation). Later recorded for 4 Star and Capitol. Rogers hosted a local TV show in San Diego and was last known to be running a pro music shop in El Cajon, CA. The politically incorrect “Sui Sin Fa” was recorded for Coral in the early 1950’s.

Dorothy ROSS
Born 1912- Real name Dorothy Roseblum died June 8, 1953 at the tender age of 49. A singer-pianist who appeared at the George Washington Hotel in New York City in 1942, she was associated with Eddie Cantor and George Olsen and was Paul Whiteman's personal secretary. Not to be confused with famous theatrical publicist of the same name.

Born in Alabama in 1920. A performer since the age of seven, when Eddie Heywood, Sr. put him in one of his Atlanta shows. He managed to acquire a B.A. in English and rose to the rank of Captain during World War II. A fixture at the Baby Grand in Harlem since 1948. He toured with Billy Eckstein and appeared on the bill with Charlie Parker at the Apollo Theater in April, 1951. His literate chiding of racial inequality earned him great popularity on TV during the 1960's.--New York City ca. 1949.

John RYAN
Real name Joe Rines, born Oct. 1, 1902 in Boston, MA. A society bandleader and commercial jingle composer, in the 1930's he recorded for Victor and Brunswick under his real name. A particularly risqué coupling is Victor 24155 Taboo, Taboo and My Love's a Country Girl (I Guess I'll Have To Marry Her).
Several of his indigo Varsity sides migrated to party labels in the late 1940's and 50's and his entire Varsity output is listed here. He recorded as Ryan for Victor after World War II.
